Insurance industry is a newly born industry in reality because it is not yet well developed. This industry started growing in the last two to three years in the real sense. In year 2006, the growth rate of non-life insurance was 24%, it is expected that it will grow continuously by 25% annually in the next decade. It is expected that gross premium of non-life insurance premium will touch the limit of 100 billion by 2011. There are currently 35 non life insurance companies and 5 life assurance companies working in Pakistan and 30 to 40 companies are willing to enter the industry. While total insurance companies in UK are more than 1050. Pakistan insurance industry is 8 times behind the insurance industry of India.
In respect of life assurance, a State life insurance Corporation of Pakistan bonus for the year 2007 is 8.45 billion rupees, which is 23 % more from the previous year. Total premium of State life insurance Corporation of Pakistan was 16 billion rupees in the year 2006.
Besides the figures, facts show different picture. Leading non-life insurance companies, which hold major business, are the part of large groups of companies. They hold the major business of public companies and their group. But the share of the medium business units is not very much. Next goal of insurance companies must be to target the segment of medium business units.
There is a need of an effective marketing in this segment. Now Insurance companies have to change their priorities and focus on medium and small business units.
The most effective way to create awareness among the general public is through conducting small lectures in different cultural programs. It can be done through seminars and public awareness programs. Insurance companies can become the sponsors of different shows to boost the industry. If companies start issuing comprehensive business policy, response of medium and small business units will increase.
If industry succeeds in getting the attention of small and medium business units, non-life insurance will touch Gross Premium psychological figure of 250 billion rupees in 2012. |
