KUALA LUMPUR: HSBC Amanah Takaful (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd has appointed Mohammed Muqeem as its new chief executive officer with effect from June 2.

In a statement, the company said Muqeem joined the HSBC group in 2004 as a senior manager of global takaful operations and has been involved in developing HSBC’s takaful business globally.

Muqeem’s career in the insurance industry began in 1969 when he joined a leading insurance firm in India.

He moved to the Middle East in the early 1990s and worked in senior positions in Saudi Arabia and Dubai.
