'SBP policy to enhance Islamic banking share to 12 percent by 2012'
The State Bank of Pakistan has made a five-year policy that would strengthen the regulation of Islamic banking in Pakistan and help increase its market share from present 4.5 percent to 12 percent by 2012; the new plan would be announced by the end of this month, said Pervez Said, Director Islamic Banking Department of SBP.

EXIM Bank Bangladesh launches VISA Islamic Card

EXIM Bank has launched Visa Islamic Card, the first Shariah-based card by any Islamic bank in the country. Chairman of the Bank Md Nazrul Islam Mazumder inaugurated the card as the chief guest at a function held at the Bangladesh-China Conference Centre in the city Saturday.

Managing Director Kazi Masihur Rahman presided over the function.

A good number of dignitaries of the country along with the valued customers of the bank were invited on the occasion.

EXIM Bank Chairman Md Nazrul Islam Mazumder inaugurating the Visa Islamic Card at the Bangladesh-China Conference Centre in the city Saturday.

Members of the bank's board of directors AKM Nurul Fazal Bulbul, Md Abdul Mannan, Md Shahidullah, Abdullah Al-Zahir Swapan, Nurul Amin Faruq, Habibullah, Md Abdullah, Prof Muhammed Sekander Khan, and Mahbubur Rashid were present in the function.

Sponsor and former director Nazrul Islam Swapan was was also present on the occasion.

EXIM Bank Visa Islamic Card offers the lowest profit rate in the card market. The card, having dual currency transaction facilities, does not have any hidden charges while several supplementary cards are offered along with the main card.

The cardholders can pay bills by auto-debit instruction with their accounts with EXIM Bank. They can readily check the balance of their accounts on cellphone.
