About Burkina Faso

Burkina Faso is a landlocked West African nation, formerly known as Upper Volta, with its capital in Ouagadougou; its name means "Land of Incorruptible/Upright People" and it's known for its diverse culture, predominantly agricultural economy (cotton, gold), French as the official language, and struggles with poverty, security, and climate change, situated on a plateau with Sahel and savanna geography.

Burkina Faso's Islamic finance industry is developing, supported by the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group, focusing on trade finance (like cotton sector support via ITFC), Shariah-compliant microfinance guidelines, and private sector growth through institutions like Coris Bank International, which offers Islamic products (CBI Baraka) to SMEs, leveraging the country's large Muslim population for inclusive growth. Key players include the IsDB, ITFC, and local banks, working within West African harmonized financial regulations to build capacity and offer Shariah-compliant alternatives.
