Syarikat Takaful 1Q profit jumps 175%

 

Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Bhd posted a net profit of RM11.63 million for the first quarter ended Sept 30, 2007, a 175% jump from RM4.23 million a year ago.
Its first-quarter revenue rose 12.1% to RM281.7 million from RM251.22 million driven by a 12.9% growth in its Family Takaful business and a 3.3% rise in its General Takaful business.
Basic earnings per share for quarter increased to 7.44 sen from 2.77 sen a year ago.
The company did not declare a dividend.
In a statement to Bursa Malaysia, the company said: "Prospects for the takaful industry in the current financial year continue to be encouraging."
It expects its business performance to improve for the financial year ending June 30, 2008 due to the strengthening of human resources, particularly in the area of business development, marketing and operations and the enhancement of its IT systems.
On Oct 10 and Nov 20, Syarikat Takaful announced that it has obtained the approval from Bank Negara Malaysia to commence negotiations with Abu Dhabi-Kuwait-Malaysia Strategic Investment Corporation (ADKMSIC) and Islamic Arab Insurance Co PJSC (Salama) respectively
