SECP’s reforms to attract more investment

 

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said on Tuesday the reforms in capital market are aimed at providing transparency and better governance of the capital market that would help in attracting more Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). Speaking during a meeting with Chairman, Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) Raziur Rehman at Prime Minister House here, the Prime Minister said the main purpose of the second-generation reforms initiated by the SECP is to attract more foreign and local investors. The capital market in Pakistan had played a positive role in developing and growing the economy, he said adding that equities market provided the people with the investment opportunities and the companies to raise funds for expansion and development for further investments. He said that the SECP as a regulator had supported the reforms in insurance sector as this was an area that offers tremendous potential to grow and develop and serve the people by providing cost effective, and reliable insurance products. The SECP chairman briefed the Prime Minister about reforms being adopted in SECP and Stock Exchanges and the second-generation reforms, which cover the capital market and insurance sector.
